Mudbound

I have just finished one of the best books I have read in a long time; Mudbound, by Hillary Jordan. It's a stunning first novel - the kind of book that makes me wonder why I bother trying to write at all. In some ways, it's not unlike Anne's Rachel Dupree. If anyone reading this hasn't come across it, do. I can't recommend it highly enough.

  1. HI Frances. I thought Mudbound was very good too, and -like you - it reminded me of Rachel du Pree. But I have to say I did think Rachel was better.

  2. Hi Alis. I don't think I could choose between those two books. I find that more and more I'm reading books by American writers. Have you read any Anne Tyler? I have loved all her books, and yet some of them have (relatively) slight subjects. The Tin Can Tree, one of her earliest, is pure genius.
