Paperback baby

Nothing quite beats the thrill of receiving the first of a new edition (or better, the very first edition) of one's own book. The paperbacks of Birds and Bees arrived today - ten of them (Macmillan are becoming very generous) - and they do look great. I carried one around with me when I went out, just in case I bumped into anyone who might be interested ( it was a wheeling- your-new-baby-out-in-the-pram-for-the-first-time thing), but I chickened out. So I'm telling my blog, instead.

  1. This really is one of the best bits of being a writer - a chance to bask in earned and guilt-free satisfaction!

  2. Thanks, Tim. It takes one to understand one!

  3. Excellent! I'm looking forward to getting my copy from Tesco's!

  4. Agree with Tim there. Once you have a stack of paperbacks at your mercy it's all real. We tell ourselves the hardbacks are great (and they do look good on the mantlepiece) but the paperback is the true test - and damn if there isn't more of them out there than you realise; they'll turn up in bookshops when you least expect it!

  5. Really looking forward to reading it Frances - maybe now that you're getting famous, MNW think you need 10 so that you can send the odd review copy out?

  6. Alis - aren't you supposed to be working...? But it's lovely to hear from you! How's it going?

  7. I am working... but I need the odd 5 minutes off here and there. Reading other people's blogs is restful whereas I'm finding even the concept of writing a post of my own mind-sapping at the moment. But the wip progresses, thanks, and son number two is knuckling down in admirable fashion.

  8. Well, you're welcome any time, Alis. I'm glad the WIP and son are progressing. My sons lay on the floor and watched TV while I yelled at them. The classic response to "you're not doing any work" was "I do work, but you never see me when I'm doing it". A bit like the tooth fairy.

PS The verificaton word is 'coment' - what are the odds against that, even mis-spelt?
