Grave spectacle...

...or rather, spectacle grave. There are more corpses, all over the house. I sit on them, drop them, drop things on them, lose them. They are nearly all amputees. They get smashed at the bottoms of handbags (one of the many reasons that I shall never be a handbag lady. I hate them), and smaller family members get at them.

But they are/were all dirt cheap, so that's something. More arrived today. This time I shall make a big effort to keep them in their cases.

Well, it's a start.

(What an incredibly dull post. Apologies.)

  1. I thought it was quite interesting, actually. I have one pair of ridiculously expensive specs, which need upgrading. (Or my eyes need repairing, or something.) Should I just nip down to Boots and get some off the peg instead?

Anyway, we need the dull bits to make the interesting bits seem interesting.

  3. In front of me, on a shelf, is a glass jar containing about 10 pairs of broken glasses. I keep them for the arms and screws in case they are needed. I've tried creating new pairs from old, but it never works. At about £5 a pair, it's hardly worth the bother.

    1. CM, selotape doesn't workeither, and superglue is lethal (but probably a good way of sticking them permanently to your face).

  4. I have them all over my house to save me hunting for them. I've even take to using my husband's too. He is the same as me. Ours are for reading only. Quite often we will be in a shop and he'll say can I have your glasses, because he's left his in the car. I have a folding pair just in case so I can hang on to mine. I carry mine with me all the time. Nothing worse than sharing one pair. LOL.

    1. sharing can be handy, Paul. But I did discover that if you go into a restaurant and ask if they have any glasses people have left behind, they sometimes have lots (ditto umbrellas).

  5. To me, my specs are so essential and so precious I would (and could) never leave it anywhere in danger of being crushed or broken. Most of the time, it sits on my nose anyway - with the exception of bed and the shower. So I do feel a bit sorry for your poor amputees. I hope your new ones will have a longer and better life.

    1. Bu Meiek, for thosee who wear them all the time, it's much easier. You know just where they are. It's we on-off-on-off people who have the biggest problem.

  6. They look like dead spider legs. I have so many friends who are for ever in need of their spectacles and cannot find them. I cannot for the life of me understand why people don't just wear them. I can legally drive without my specs but have for decades had varifocals which, like Meike, I keep on my nose except when in the shower or in bed. Seems very simple to me.

    1. Graham, if I wore my (reading) glases to drive, I'd wrap myself round the first tree. I can barely see to walk in them.

    2. So have plain glass in the top bit.

    3. Graham, I don't want glasses all the time! On a horse? Not good. Small grandchildren snatch them off. They don't suit my...um...lifestyle. Or me, come to that.

  8. I'm like Meike, I need glasses all the time - only these days I do need different ones for different things, so I still have plenty of them scattered all over my home. I'm not in the habit of sitting on them, though. (That particular hazard I find can quite easily be avoided by not putting them on any surface I use for that purpose...)

  9. I have a few pairs from the Pound Shop placed strategically. The fact that they are so cheap and easily replaceable means that they don't seem to get lost or broken.
