Introducing Pinky and Washing Instructions

Meet Pinky and Washing Instructions. They were the first Christmas presents my youngest son ever had (he was ten days old), and they languish here, sometimes cuddled by grandchildren but mostly ignored. I thought they deserved a post to cheer them up (Washing Instructions is particularly grumpy. You only have to look at his face).

Pinky is so-called because that's what's on his label. The same goes for Washing Instructions. The names stuck, as is the way with names. I think Washing Instructions did have a bath once, a long time ago. He's probably due another. So is Pinky.

That's all really.  It's not that I haven't got enough to do; it's just that I don't feel like doing it.

  1. Well that's given me a good smile Frances. I think I'd be rather grumpy, though, if I'd been called Washing Instructions.

    1. Actually, Graham, I think it suits him. But then I've never know his as anything else.

    2. No, we wouldn't know what to do with the "w" at the end!

  4. A soft toy called 'Washing Instructions'? Could your son even pronounce it?

    1. Wendy, he couldn't pronounce anything at the time. After that, I'm afraid I can't remember!

  5. My " utility teddy" is in my bedroom. He has a sort of rag doll body and a teddy bear head. I think he was originally a girl, as I seem to remember a check dress, but my Mum knitted him a red trouser suit many years ago, thus he became a boy! I don't think he had a name other than " Teddy". No imagination you see.....my hamster was Hammy and my guinea pig was Ginny!

  7. I think Washing Instructions is a brilliant name and I love his grumpy face. One of my daughters still has a pale-beige teddy with a multi-page label attached to his ear whom she christened Honey Cream Leaflet.

    1. Your family must have something in common with ours, Joanna!

  8. Well that must be one of the most unusual names for a teddy bear, Frances, and it made me laugh!

    1. Sadly, my own long lost teddy rejoiced in the stunningly unoriginal name of Rupert, Rosemary...

  9. Ditto what Rosemary said ... I actually laughed out loud to start my day so thank you.

  10. Your post made me smile. And I know what you mean about not feeling like doing things.
I'm so not interested in a few things at the moment...like housework for example.

    1. Ah, housework...the very word makes me shudder, Maria!

  11. My first teddies were Mrs Black And White, and Green. It was quite easy to tell them apart.

    1. A green teddy...hm. Was he really green, Patsy? Come to think of it, I did once have a teddy called Rabbit.

  12. It strikes me when I read this, that I can't recall the name of my childhood teddy bear! (He left me a long time ago. Mysteriously, in my childhood, some toys in their Old Age just one day went to live in a place called (the Swedish word for) The Attic, and were never seen again. I suppose his name was probably the Swedish equivalent of Teddy ('Nalle').
I have two little ones of later date sitting on a shelf in my study. One is Winne the Pooh (without label but ovbious incarnation of). The other, just Teddy (in English). Checking his label, I find that his surname is Time. (Maybe from now on he'll be Mr Time.)

  13. Smitonius couldn't quite manage Teddy so had Eggy Bear .

  14. Eggy Bear sounds a bit messy? Good try, though!
