Today is apparently
National Poetry Day.
I am not a poet.
I cannot write of views and sunsets
Or pen a little ode to love.
But I can write the kind of thing
That looks like a poem, but isn't.
Like this.

Frances you do yourself an injustice! You are masterful (or mistressful) at the art of writing humour into the poetry form!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do
so
AGREE THAT
much
that purports
to be
poetry
is not.
Anna :o]
Anna,
DeleteKind Anna,
What
Can
I
Say?
You know more about poetry than many who purport to be poets. You know that a poem has a left hand margin!
ReplyDeleteYou're too kind, Yvonne!
DeleteYou're a fantastic poet, Frances, and a far more entertaining one than most!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I saw your beautiful daughter on QVC. She is so lovely and talented. She came across really well on television. You must have felt very proud of her. x
Thank you, Joanna. I have to be careful what I say, but I have to confess to wondering how one sweet-natured girl can deviate from the truth so many times in the space of a mere hour!
DeletePaid advocates never deviate from the truth Frances: they simply pass on instructions. When I was instructed by those who paid me to present a case, to say things which were patently untrue or silly (I was instructed by politicians!) there were well understood forms of words which were used. The most obvious way of saying that the words I was about to use were far removed from by beliefs was to say "I am instructed to say..." That always managed to get a raised eyebrow of acknowledgement.
DeleteYou are my sort of poet. Can't stand the airy fairy nonsense that sometimes passes as poetry. It should at least rhyme ( a bit!) in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFrances (what an excellent name!) I couldn't agree more!
DeleteThat's very clever, Frances - you can certainly rhyme!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I deserve that, Rosemary!
DeleteYou do yourself an injustice, Frances. I've got you down as the next poet laureate!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. What's the pay like, Gail?
