Last night, my ruthlessly logical twelve-year-old granddaughter, about whom I posted the other day, was giving me her thoughts on the recession.
"Why can't we just download Monopoly money, and print it off?" said she. "Then if we run out, we can go and earn some more."
DIY quantitative easing (oh, I love that expression!). Now, why has no-one thought of that before? That child will go far.

My nephew used to say, 'if I save £1 a day, in a million days I will be a millionaire'.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea.
There's a flaw in that somewhere...I was going to divid 1,000,000 by 365, but lost the will to divide
DeleteTo me, the Monopoly money always seemed so much prettier than real money, and I thought it a shame that we weren't able to use it in the shops. Our set was very old, with wooden houses and the currency still "Mark", not "Deutsche Mark" (let alone Euro!), and the notes were of a type of paper unlike anything else, in beautiful pastel colours.
ReplyDeletePretty, but flimsy, Meike!
DeleteSmart little granddaughter you have there, Frances. I'm sure she'll grow up to be an economist, a banker, or Prime Minister.
ReplyDeleteK
She wants to be a famous actress. Of course...
DeleteNot a bad idea. As good as any that Mr Osbourne et al are coming up with at the moment anyway.
ReplyDeleteMy feelings exactly, Colette!
DeleteI'm off to get my monopoly out this minute.....
ReplyDeleteIf you start playing, you'll be up all night. You have been warned! (I HATE Monopoly)
DeleteI hate to tell you (and your obviously very smart granddaughter) but various governments have already tried this. It doesn't usually work! I just threw this comment in because I couldn't think of anything witty to say and wanted you to know that I'd read it.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to be witty all the time, GB. Relax!
DeleteI've just got back from Jersey, where they issue their own Monopoly money. See my blog later.
