I am lusting after...

...denim dungarees. I just love them. Years ago, just after the birth of my second child, I bought my first pair, and I had at least one other (the boiler suit was another matter. A terrible mistake, best forgotten). Dungarees are cool and comfortable, they don't have a waist so I don't have to have one either, and they look great with checked shirts.

So I told my daughter, who is beautiful, and fashion conscious, and my style guru (I have no style but I do have my guru). Her response was pretty well unprintable, but she did say that she wouldn't  be seen dead in my company if I wore dungarees. She also mentioned a piece of straw in the mouth as an accessory, which was silly, wasn't it? My granddaughter, on the other hand, said that dungarees are in at the moment (really?), and "go for it, Granny". Lovely child, Phoebe. I always said so.

That's all, really. I'm off to Google cheap dungarees.

  1. Well if I could look as good as the lady in the picture, I'd go for it too. Aren't grandchildren wonderful for making you feel good. Hope you find a good pair.

  2. Unlike in the US, they've never really taken-off in the UK (other than as a jokey Lesbian uniform). Dungarees, T shirt, and comfortable shoes; I like the sound of that. I might even do some research myself.

  3. I had a pair once but don't know what happened to them. I think I got mine from Millets.

    1. Ah....Millets. Long gone from Devizes, sadly.

  4. The last pair I owned had legs that reached about the middle of my thigh and I enjoyed wearing it in the summer. That was in the 1990s, and I must admit I sort of forgot that dungarees existed since then; they seem to have completely disappeared from our streets. Maybe we're in for their comeback, and you will be our trendsetter, Frances!

  6. Oh I loved my dungarees and I think they look lovely and wish I could wear them again. My daughter would have the same reaction as yours though - thank goodness for grandchildren xx

  8. So strange you wrote this post, Frances, as I was in London on Saturday and noticed that there were dungarees in a shop window. I then spent a long while boring her about the dungarees I wore with a red checked shirt at university.
