Magpie 267

I wandered (oh, am I allowed
To copy Wordsworth once again?)
When suddenly, I saw a cloud -
No wait! It's coming from a train!
Born by an aqueduct on high
It's  smoke pollutes both land and sky.
No wonder, as I roam these hills,
I can't find any daffodils.

(With thank to Tess at Magpie Tales for the picture)

  1. Magnifique! The more that dreadful poem is parodied the better.

  5. I forgive the train it's polluting smog
    The image is stunning
    Beyond becoming.
My eyes were popping my mind agog.
The loco puffing way up high,
A wonderful vision in the sky.

By the way, it's polluting from a viaduct..

    1. You're right, of course, But there could have been water under there somewhere?

  7. Excellent, Frances!

Looking at the picture I was reminded of our old American folk song, "She'll Be Comin' Round the Parabola When She Comes"....

...and Adrian is right: It's a viaduct, not an aqueduct, but no matter.

    1. I know Adrian's right, bother him! But I'll leave it as it is, so that he can remain right. After all, I'd hate to make him look silly...

  8. I think most of it is steam not smoke?

    Yours pedantically ...

    1. Pedantic Patsy, you're right. But if you were old enough to remember those old trains, believe me, there was a lot of smoke in all that steam. I well remember the smuts flying throgh the windows. Happy days...

    1. How true. But Wordsworth wasn't interested in heather :(

  10. Adrian got to the viaduct first: a fellow pedant. It is a remarkably beautiful picture. And a very clever poem.
