Confession of a Facebook Troll

I don't do Facebook; I'm just a Facebook stalker. I spy on people, and admire their photos, and generally use FB to entertain myself when I'm at a loose end. I do correct my daughter's punctuation
(she's  given to this !!! sort of thing, and I have a thing about abuse of exclamation marks), but she's now told me that "it's not funny any more, Mum", so I resist, and she continues on her inaccurate grammatical way, unimpeded by her pedantic parent. I don't Like people's comments, either, because once you start, where does it end? In fact I'm just a troll.

But today, misled by the technology involved, I accidentally posted a recipe for haddock risotto on my (rather empty) Facebook page. This was a mistake (long story). I'm hoping someone will take pity on me and teach me how to remove it, because it looks rather silly (if delicious).

That's all.

  1. I saw it and may have 'liked' it because I rarely see you there. But as I don't like risotto, it was a silly thing to 'like' so I get your point!!!!! I love the exclamation mark, especially since the grammar police have told teachers of primary schools to discourage it.

    1. Maggie, it physically hurts me to see bunches of exclamation marks. But the risotto was very nice.

  2. To remove it, click on the tiny arrowy thing in the top right hand corner. You'll get a list of options, one of which should be to delete the post.

  3. btw, you're not a troll - you're a lurker. That's not so bad.

    1. Thank you, Patsy. Now, what's the difference between and troll and a lurker?

    2. A troll is someone who deliberately stirs up arguments or causes upsets. A lurker just lurks about reading stuff but not interacting much.

    1. Adrian, I despair of you, in so many ways. But I shall continue to follow your blog because I love the photos. But I don't understand the Mixer.

  5. Did your daughter say "It's not funny anymore, Mum!!!" ?
I don't do Facebook at all, neither as a troll, nor a lurker or anything else. It is not compatible with my role as Privacy and Data Protection Officer. Anyone who wishes to be on Facebook and knows what happens with their personal data is welcome to use it as much as they like; it's just not for me.

    1. I think it's safest to assume that if we put anything anywhere on Facebook (or Twitter etc) that anyone could get to see it.

    2. It's not so much about what people put on any social media platform, deliberately and of their own free will, because they wish to share it.
The problem is all the data that is being collected behind the scenes - not just about the person using the platform, but more often than not even about the person's contacts who don't even have an account there themselves.

  6. Meike, she wouldn't dare (actually, she said it). Your role sounds very posh.....?

    1. Does it? Well, it's the official translation of what I am in the job world. I've looked it up! :-) The German word is much more impressive, because it is so much longer:
      Datenschutzbeauftragte.
      How does that sound? :-)

  7. It amuses me the thought of you as a FB troll. You're very welcome to lurk around my posts anytime 😊

  8. I seem to recall that your FB page concentrated on human rights matters. Actually having a FB page to be liked and shared is almost an essential part of the publicity machine these days whether you are a writer or have a dental practice. I'm sure that your publisher has made that point.

    1. Graham, my FB page is pretty well dead. I know I ought to do it, and be a Twit as well, but am not keen. Silly, really, as I do this, but somehow a blog serms more private....
