Happy Birthday!

I've only just realised that this year marks the tenth birthday of my first novel, Dead Ernest. It doesn't seem possible that ten years have gone by. Like a first baby, there's something very special about a first novel, and I was disappointed when the publisher stopped issuing it in paperback. But lots of people liked it, including Andrew Davies (of Pride and Prejudice fame), who loved it, and a TV producer wanted to make it into a film, bu sadly, failed to get the necessary financial backing. She even had a well-known actress interested in playing the lead .Luckily, I didn't get too excited, as I had long since learnt that disappointment is built in to the writing game. But it would have been nice....

If you'd like to give Ernest (and me) a birthday present, please buy the Kindle version (or a second-hand copy) from Amazon. I know the Kindle is £4.72 ( and I've badgered the publisher to bring down the price), but it would make one writer (and one dead hero) very happy...

  1. Well I hope lots of people buy it Frances. It's worth every penny. By the way I still haven't solved the problem of posts being posted on Facebook. However someone else has asked me (and one day mine might disappear) so I shall renew my efforts.

  2. Happy Birthday dear book. You are an excellent read. I've not read you for a couple of years so will read you again. Amazon prices have shot up. Anything current now seems to be the thick end of £10.00p.

  3. I would love to read it again, but must have given my copy away! I have a pile of about 6 books waiting to be read...not counting book club reads!

    1. Thank you! Frances, we have a really good system in our book club. We don't have a 'set' book; we just discuss the books we have been reading, share those we've enjoyed etc. It's much better, as we don't end up having to do what feels like homework!

  4. I bought, read and reviewed it some years ago and still think it is a really good read, one I can recommend to all those who have not yet done so. And I am not just saying this because we are fellow bloggers!

    1. Wendy, you're very kind! Thank you. I've just finished a murder novel (a new departure) and another is being looked at, so we shall see...
