God is like the royal family...

...in that if you don't believe in/support him, you don't have to have anything to do with him. And yet people continue to knock them both.

As a supporter of both, I simply don't get it. I know at least two people who are so strongly atheist that they have to keep mentioning it. Why? They need to get over themselves. You don't believe in
God. I get it. Now let's talk about something else.

Ditto the royal family. As anti-royalist friends disappeared with their picnic lunch to find a "wedding free zone" on Saturday, muttering darkly about the expense etc.etc., we settled down to a glorious wedding fest with a neighbour and a bottle of Prosecco. And we loved every minute. The bride, that Dress, the groom, the horses, the wonderfully dignified and beautiful mother of the bride...it was all superb. Apparently our royal family cost us each fifty pence a year, and simple souls like us get so much pleasure from occasions such as that wedding. Anti royalists, you can switch off your sets and go on your picnics. Let the rest of us have our bit of Brexit free fun!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would have enjoyed the wine bit and the horses.

  2. I am with you, Frances! Being American, I thought we had all the more reason to be happy for this Royal Wedding but no, there were spoilsports here too. Wet blankets are no fun.

  3. I loved it all, though I got distracted in the garden while they signed the register and missed them coming out down the aisle! I felt sorry for Meghan's Mum sitting all alone. I would have thought someone could have kept her company! She coped brilliantly all the same.

    1. Frances, I did wonder whether she had chosen to sit alone? But it was a bit sad at such a special time.

  4. Here in NY, I recorded the whole royal "do" (not getting up at 4AM for ANYONE)... and watched it at my leisure in the late morning with my cup of cappucino. Cried like a baby, loved the whole glorious spectacle. I understand there are people that don't love weddings of people they don't even know, but happily I am not one of them. I don't really care if the people getting married are royal or peasant or what have you, I just love a good romantic wedding!

  5. I was busy enjoying a BBQ with O.K.'s family - no TV on the allotment, but I wasn't overly interested and so did not feel I was missing out on something.
Those who keep talking about the expense should remember that the Royals also make - indirectly - a lot of money for shops, hotels and other businesses in the UK. How many tourists come to London alone each year only because they want to see where their favourite celebrities live!
It's a bit like with space travel. A lot of people say that the money for it could be spent in more useful ways. Maybe that is so, but remember that evey single penny of it is spent right here on Earth, not blown into space. And would it really be spent for good causes if there was no space station? I seriously doubt it.

    1. Oh good! It's nice that (so far) there haven't been any adverse replies to my post, although there are lots of kill joys in the media. Inevitably. Sigh.
