I wandered like a mote of dust
That floats on high above the stairs,
When all at once, I came across
A host of little wooden chairs.
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
I wondered - whose on earth are these?
(With thanks to Magpie Tales for the photo, and apologies to Wordsworth)
whose chairs of those?
ReplyDeletelove the line, you have described the setting thoughtfully.
inspiring magpie.
Gives you an whole arena to imagine. I really wonder whose chairs were they.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
dreamlike and musical
ReplyDeletewhose chairs indeed :)
Ah, that's a fun one!
ReplyDeleteI love this, Frances!
ReplyDeleteCould've come straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Charming.
ReplyDeleteThat picture looks like the scene for an outdoor wedding where non of the guests are expected to get on with each other!
ReplyDeletewith the Other Mary, this one's fun and I think thoughtful too in a subtle wider way because I take it that Wordsworth was here first in the form.
ReplyDeleteadorable. childlike yet fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, too wonderful, Frances. Poor Wordsworth. I just love what you've done with him.

ReplyDeleteGiggle...perfect...
ReplyDeleteheehee
ReplyDeleteI'm sure WW is cool with it.
=)
Outstanding!
ReplyDeleteThe tone of the poem really fit the tone of the photo: magical, mystical and a little bit curious.
ReplyDeleteA real improvement on the original!
ReplyDeletereally lovely - the first line just drags you in
ReplyDeleteOh, Frances, you've done it again! You do make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo - and your little rhyme is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love the humour in this one.
ReplyDeleteGood poem! Have you read "the Wordsmiths of Gorsemere" by the way? you might enjoy it - it's a sardonic look at the life of Wordsworth .
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, eveyrone. Once again, it was a rather lazy effort. But I really dislike that Wordsworth poem, not least because I always feel so sorry for Dorothy, bustling around with her duster, while big brother "lies on his couch, in vacant or in pensive mood" dreaming up silly verses. (I would add that I do like some of his poems, if not a big fan.)
ReplyDeletePerfect rhyme, not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
ReplyDeleteI, too, wonder. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this one!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonder, not knowing, and wondering "whose on earth are these"...now you've got me wondering too!
ReplyDeleteCall me old- fashioned, but I like the bounce and the rhyme you gave this verse, and yet still managed to keep us wondering. My Magpie this week is Goldilocks
ReplyDeleteThanks again for those kind comments.
