You are invited...

...to a cyber New Year's Eve party. All you have to do is bring yourself, a partner of your choice (living or dead, celebrity or not) and one (genuine) unwanted Christmas gift* to exchange with a fellow guest. Drinks and canapes will be provided. Carriages at 12.30. And this is a party you can attend in addition to any other party you may be planning. So you have nothing to lose.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

RSVP (for catering purposes)

*This can be any year's unwanted Christmas gift, to avoid the embarrassment of its donor finding out. But I shall be bringing my Coronation Street Quiz Book. Oh - and Reginald D. Hunter, because he makes me laugh.

  1. Damn it! I am at work! I can't come! And I have rose bath salts I received as a child that I want rid of...

Oh well - I shall wish you a wonderful and happy New Year now Frances. Here's to 2012! Cheers!

  2. I wish I could RSVP, but I never know when my health will allow me to go out, or to go online, or to go anywhere, for that matter.
Still, if I'm here at my computer, I'd love to attend. The carriage will be greatly appreciated, as I'm no longer as young as I once was.

  4. If it wasn't for the 5-course dinner at a posh restaurant RJ has invited me to, I'd love to come to your party! I'd bring the hideous handbag I got for Christmas this year, brand new, unused... but hideous :-)
Have fun at the party, dance on the table, eat, drink, sing, and be merry!

  5. I'm here! Oh looks like I'm a smidge early ... will pop back later.

  6. Anna, Diane, Kay and Librarian - you've all missed the point! This is a CYBER (okay - theoretical) party! Anyone can come. Time, space, age and health no issue at all, and you don't have to be at your computer. I shall be otherwise occupied this evening, too. Now, come on. I need you all, otherwise Patsy (thank you, Patsy) and I will be on our own, dancing round our handbags. Looking silly.

  7. I love Reginald D. Hunter too - may I take him home after the party please?

Okay I have brought with me the damp smelling and slightly mouldy faded-in-patches bri-nylon nightdress in its yellowed-with-time musty box which I was given for Christmas a couple of years ago.

I'll be bringing Julian Clary along - Happy New Year!

  8. Will try and pop back later, Frances - about to go out!

  9. I'm here, Frances - and naturally, I've brought George Clooney with me. (I bagged him first, before anyone else got in!). I would have brought the top my husband brought me as part of my Christmas present this year - it didn't suit me at all and also had a hole in it! - but I've already taken it back to the shop!

  10. Ooh, loverly. I can bring a 2012 diary which is too tiny to write anything in and maybe Ben Fogle if he's free!

  11. Thank you, Frances, for this lovely invitation.
I shall bring Clint Hotpants, the main character in one of my first ever stories, as yet unpublished.
My best present this year was a beautifully-wrapped packet of Galaxy cake bars.
All the very best wishes to you and your family for 2012. x

  12. Alright then, as long as nobody will object to me wearing my yellow feather boa!
Are there going to be creamy cocktails tasting of coconut?

  13. Teresa, can I have him back in time for breakfast?

Looking forward to seeing you, Rosemary.

Olivia, you can still bring the top (in theory, anyway). What colour is it?

Joanne, people are always giving me tiny little diaries, and I do wonder what use they are to anyone...?

Hi, Joanna. Clint Hotpants sounds just the ticket!

Librarian, we have oceans of creamy coconut cocktails, and a yellow feather boa sounds wonderful.

Now I'm just off to have a scented bath and put on my Kate Middleton frock...

  14. Oh, I am empty handed this year. How nice to get presents that I like. I really think I've trained everyone at last.

All the best for 2012 Frances.

  15. I'm here! I have Sarah Millican with me and a box of soaps so crusty round the edges I think they've been doing the rounds for several Christmasses. (I suppose recycling is green at least!)

Now, where have you put my G&T?

  16. Thanks for coming, everyone. But someone could have stayed behind to help me with the washing-up.

    Sigh.

  17. Sorry I missed this parh-tay! Sounds a good one - like a white elephant store where other's people's unwanted junk can be quite fascinating!

    Have a great 2012!

  18. Seems I missed all the fun - busy entertaining family, but hope you all had a fab time exchanging your gifts (glad I missed that bit. A very Happy New Year Frances - your book is on order.

  19. The top was quite pretty really Frances - silvery grey with patterns of red, green and (tries to remember) um, another colour ... it was the style I didn't like (and also the hole of course!). But I changed it for a nice red top which I wore yesterday, and there was £3 difference in price for which the shop manager let me have a £5 lovely red bangle to go with the top - so I ended up very happy. If anyone wants (virtually) my high-collared, large-pocketed, rather strange shaped top (including hole in shoulder seam), please feel free! Even if the party's over and even though it's been taken back to the shop!

  20. Hic. Is it all over? It was a great party, Frances - well what I can remember of it was.

  21. Oops! Got here too late... Hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve, Frances and here's to a happy, successful 2012!

  22. Well, since we got here too late, me and Lesley Gore will just have to sit on the steps outside the locked door. She can cry if she wants to. Me, I'm gonna drink to everyone's health with this bucket of whiskey. Happy New Year, Frances.
