Happy Christmas

This crib, entirely knitted by my very clever daughter-in-law, seems the ideal illustration for a cyber card to wish all followers and passers-by a really happy and peaceful Christmas.

(I may be back before Christmas if a thought strikes me, but I really ought to be shredding red cabbage, wrapping presents, making mince pies and panicking).

  1. Happy Christmas right back at you. The tree we weren't going to do went up last eve. Tinsel and fairy lights adorn the living room. I'm glad we did it but it's a live tree and no pine scent to speak of. I must search out a wreath or garland today to compensate. That smell is a big part of Christmas memories.

    1. ER, I so agree about smells. I can take or leave turkey, but I need the smell of it cooking at Christmas!

    1. Thank you, Teresa. And the same to you. Yes. My DIL is a brilliant knitter (and an even better doctor and mum).

  3. Happy Christmas, Frances. Love the crib figures. My mum used to knit little dolls for Christmas fairs held by the local history society in the village where my parents lived in their retirement years. But hers were little Santa/gnome ones (the Swedish 'tomte' is somewhat of a mix between them) and Lucias.

    1. Oh! I remember a picture book I read as a child, "Tomte Tumetot and the Fox" or something like that.

    2. I can't remember ever reading that one about Tomten and the fox, Meike. From an internet search now I get the impression this is one Astrid Lindgren tale that might have become more popular in Germany than here in Sweden! (?)

    3. I think you're right there, Monica. The book was by Astrid Lindgren, at least the words were - can't remember who did the illustrations.

  8. What beautiful knitting, Frances. Your daughter-in-law is very gifted. It really is lovely.
I have washed five cushion covers and defrosted the freezer, so I guess Christmas must be on it way. I hope you and all your family have a very, very happy one, and thank you for another year of great entertainment. xxx

    1. I've not been asked to bake this year, Yvonne (my daughter is in charge). So far, it's the red cabbage and the "salmony bits", whatever they are.
