La la la la la...

😡Are we the only people on the planet to think this awful film is just a load of tosh? We sat through it last nigh, dreaming of our fish and chips (we only have fish and chips after the cinema - house rule) and of paint drying. Hardly any dialogue, ditto storyline, a lot of half-hearted dancing - please tell me we're not alone.(This post is mainly because I want to try out my new computer, which terrifies me.)

  1. I haven't seen the film. I've just had an email from a friend in New Zealand who said it was so boring he wouldn't recommend that I go and see it. On the other hand YP who has accused me (and I'm paraphrasing) of escapism because I don't, as a rule, like very 'challenging' films said it was a brilliant film and recommended that we should go and see it.

    1. Graham, I'm totally with your NZ friend. I was bored to tears (and I'm rarely bored). Do let me know what you think of it if you see it!

  2. I have never liked musicals. The same reason I don't see the point of opera. I would never go and see La La Land. Thank you for confirming this for me.

  3. Have you seen " A United Kingdom" ? We saw it last week, and it was superb. My husband spent a year in Botswana in '65 with VSO and was helping with the elections. He knew Seretse and Ruth so I knew he would enjoy it, but so did I. Apparently, Jacqueline, their first child, who is seen as a baby in the film, turfed P and his friend out of bed one morning saying they should be about their business. She would have been 14/15 at that time.

  4. Just last night at my regular Girls' Night, two of my friends and I said that we'd like to go and see the film. I have read YP's review (linked to in Graham's comment) and thought it sounded like something I'd enjoy.
Good job there are so many different films and books about, to suit every taste!
I hope the fish & chips you were having afterwards at least made up for the boring time you had at the cinema :-)

    1. The fish and chips were excellent, Meike. They almost made up for the film.....

  5. Oh my dear, you should have asked ME! I would have TOLD you it would be a terrible film! I have a gift you know, it does me no good in life, but I can tell a stinker of a movie from a MILE away, and I can tell by just the description of it.
I try very hard not to be negative but honestly, the things that are popular these days just makes me wonder what in the world has happened to good taste and common sense.
(Sorry if anyone saw this film and loved it, if so, I am happy for you but it sounds like drivel to me!)

    1. Kay, I would have asked you if I'd thought of it and known that you knew about these things. As for the film, to call it drivel is being too kind.

  6. I don't even know what film you're talking about. Is that the title??

  7. My husband and I are both dancers so have been looking forward to seeing this film. Have heard very mixed things about it. It seems the film is a bit like marmite - people either love it or hate it. I'll let you know.

    1. Definitely a Marmite film, Wendy. I was astonished that my youngest SON loved it! (He doesn't dance or sing....)

  8. I love musicals and dancing so I've been reading the opinions with interest. Haven't seen it yet and I might wait for the DVD!

  9. I loved "La La Land" - so light and other worldly and the camera work was so agile - as if dancing. My wife on the other hand was, like you, underwhelmed.
