On Saturday, I cheered myself up by joining my son and his family for a picnic. We spent a happy hour or so playing Poohsticks on this bridge. Passers-by, who had to climb over (some of) us were not amused, but we had a great time.
I despair of some people - the passersby that is not you and your family. Defeat can be hard to take but remember that its the taking part that matters.
See a bridge - drop something (preferably a stick) over one side, and see whose gets to the other side first. Simples! Hope I'm right in thinking that's what Poohsticks is?
I live with my husband in Devizes in Wiltshire where I spend my time writing, reading, riding (I am the lucky owner of a beautiful horse, Blue), and keeping up with my four children and an increasing number of small grandchildren (eight so far). I was for many years a nurse and a Relate counsellor. I have taught creative writing both at a local college and a prison, and I review a wide variety of items - including books - for the Amazon Vine programme.I write to death row prisoners in America, being a life-long opponent jof the death penalty. And I spend too much time blogging..

What sort of creatures were those unamused passers-by? Certainly not human. I'd have joined in.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tim!
DeleteLovely pictures! And you are right. Poohsticks rocks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny. Actually, Poohsticks is oddly addictive!

ReplyDeleteOh, I took part okay, Colette. You may be sure of that!
DeleteGee, now I feel underprivileged. Not only have I never played this game, I never heard of it before. (But win or lose, it looks like fun!)
ReplyDeleteIt's a verybEnglish thing, Susan, and it helps if you've read the book!
DeleteLovely innocent fun and shame on the passers-by for not joining in with it.
ReplyDeleteI suppose we were making rather a lot of (cheerful) noise...
DeleteWell, "poo" to those passers by. They don't know what fun they missed.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Pat. They don't!

ReplyDeleteExactly right, Maggie. But we used flowers and leaves as well.
DeleteBah to the miserable old passers-by! Who on earth could object to a family having fun in such a thoroughly nice way? The pictures are lovely x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Teresa. What a sensible woman you are!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture of children having such innocent fun - makes the heart glad. How dare people complain!
ReplyDeleteThey didn't exactly complain, Rosemary, but they just gave us Looks!
DeleteYou might not have won, Frances but you didn't lose out in the way those passers-by did.
ReplyDeleteToo right, Patsy!
ReplyDeleteI, too, would have been down there with you joining in. If you haven't played Poohsticks then you haven't lived.
