...one day last week in the street. An elderly couple shopping:
She (plaintively): I only wanted a little diary!
He (crossly): Then you can buy it yourself!
And I thought, how sad. Once, they may have held hands, kissed, made love and maybe babies. Then he would probably have been delighted to buy her a big diary, embossed, in leather. And flowers as well.
How did it come to this?

Perhaps he'd just bought the big, embossed diary and it didn't fit in her handbag?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they're usually much happier and you caught them on a bad day.
Those were my thoughts exactly.
DeleteThey looked as though every day was a bad day. Sadly..
DeleteLove is... being able to bite each others' heads off occasionally and still being able to hold hands, kiss and make love later!
ReplyDeleteYes. But sometimes you just...well you just know its not like that!
DeleteHaving a narky day, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteShopping never brings out the best in your other half!
ReplyDeleteL, this is very true!
DeleteOh that sounds sad :-( x
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought, Teresa!
DeleteThey wouldn't have kissed and made love (and babies) right there on the street now, would they!
ReplyDeleteAs for the plaintive voice - my upstairs neighbour has one of those, and I often wonder how her husband can bear it every day and all day (they are both retired) when it drives me mad even on the few occasions I really hear her.
At least you don't have to live with your neighbour!
DeleteAs usual the man's logic escapes me.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Colette!
DeleteSometimes the imagined lives of others is really intriguing.
ReplyDeleteAnd then we go and write stories about them if we can!
