European elections. A very dull post

To earn the vote, brave women fought,
And so today, I know I ought
To go and put my little cross.
But I'm reluctant to, because -
And here's my point - do you, like me,
Know nothing about your MEP?

(Plus, it's pouring with rain.)

  1. That's exactly how I feel, Frances, and I'm having to vote for the party!

  2. If it's raining go and vote next week. It will make little difference.

  3. There are some people standing who I really don't want to see get elected, so I'm going to vote for someone else.

    1. Exactly my reasoning, Patsy. I had no idea so many right wing parties existed until I saw the ballot sheet.

  4. Back in the UK I always voted, but for the past 42 years I haven't. UK politics is complicated enough, I wouldn't know where to start over here.

    1. Well, I did vote. Not that it'll make the slightest difference, CM.

  5. I felt that way too......but forced myself to put my mac on and walk to the local school and vote......I suspect my vote makes little difference but as you say women died for my rights .....and although I struggle with a european parliament concept and don't know much about the MEP it was 20 mins out of my evening and the walk in the rain was quite refreshing!

    1. Libby, I feel my vote buys me the right to complain. And I shall certainly complain, whatever happens.

  6. Our election takes place this Sunday. A big fat oversized envelope arrived on Wednesday, with all the election documents in it. I am usually not daft when it comes to filling in forms, but these are so complicated that I am sure many will get something wrong and their vote will not be valid.

As for party politics - none of the ones that are up for election truly represents my views. Most of them have SOME point I agree with, but nobody has them all. Maybe I should run for Queen of Germany. I'd quite like to have a shiny crown to wear when I go out.

    1. All those documents, Meike, and all we have is a measly little card. Sigh.

  7. I am glad I had a very good excuse not to vote. I do like the delicious David Dimbleby though.

    1. I voted, as I said above, and got wet in the process.

  8. I overslept and forgot to take my voting card with me to work and I went straight from there to dialysis so I didn't vote. I doubt anyone noticed and I'm sure it didn't make a difference.

    1. You're excused. Colette! I hope the dialysis is going well?

    2. It is thanks Frances. I haven't felt this well in years.
