Drum roll......the Bruise!

Last Tuesday, I fell off my horse.
He's tall, so I fell with some force.
The size of the bruise
Made the ten o'clock news.
Will I ride him again? Yes, of course.

I know, I know. You don't really want to see it. But it's selfish to keep this kind of thing to oneself, isn't it? And I'm still very sore. And like so many invalids, attention-seeking.

PS I prefer peaches to grapes.

  1. I knew it would be big, but blimey, you don't do things by halves do you? I have never seen such a huge bruise in my life.
I think you deserve a whole crate of peaches - actually make that a lorry load!
And a ton of sympathy coming your way x

    1. Thanks, Teresa! I think I'll need a lorry load of tissues to help with the peaches. I see now why people favour tidy little grapes.

  3. That looks impressive! So, horses don't like wind, but they do like chucking people off their backs! Hope the bruises fade soon.

    1. Horses should come with a health warning, Fran. The hospital staff said they get more riding injuries than anything else. But I won't tell my sons, the next time we have the horses v motorbikes argument...

  4. Oh my goodness, what a bruise, and such impressive colour, too. I'm sure it hurts horribly. No internal damage, though? Amazing.

    3. I did, thanks. I thought it had a lot of poignancy and humour and I liked its structure.

  8. Frances, that is definitely the worst bruise I have ever seen. I am shocked by the incredible colour. That must hurt so, so much. I bet it will take a while to disappear completely, but the good thing about bruises is that even this one will vanish. And the other good thing is that it hasn't put you off riding again. x

    1. Joanna, I don't think anything would put me off. Life would be so much more straightforward if it did...

  13. That is truly spectacular !! And must have been agonising ... so I'm not teribly sure that I'd have been worried about how glamorous or otherwise my underwear was !

  14. I can only join the others in saying WOW, that is some bruise. Amazing that nothing was broken - you must have very strong bones.

  15. Oh my gosh Frances. That looks terrible. However given that you've broken your back and heaven knows what that we don't know about I think you are beginning to stray into the realms of self-inflicted wounds. I originally thought that you were incredibly brave re-mounting but now I'm inclined to the view that you are just plain mad. There's no other word for it. The only bone I've ever broken (apart from a toe when I walked into a ciste) was as a result of falling off a horse. After proving to myself when the bone had mended that I could still get on and gallop I never sat on a horse again.

  16. GB, you exaggerate. I've only broken my back(twice), arm, elbow, toes (twice) and collar bone. At least I've lived a little...

BTW what on earth's a ciste?

    1. I said that you are mad! I haven't altered my opinion. (Note use of ! advisedly). I just want you to go on living. Otherwise 'little' might be just that.

A ciste is a chest - like a blanket chest and often used for that purpose. It's Gaelic although it's just part of everyday vocabulary here so I forget that it might not be understood elsewhere. Apologies.

  17. Oh my! That's what you call a bruise.

  18. Too bad I didn't know about your bruise. The best thing for a bruised lady is a cowboy kiss on the boo boo. Hope you got well anyway;)
