Dear Un-follower (if you read this)
I had a feeling this might happen, and I'm sorry to see you go, but we obviously disagreed about something about which I feel very strongly. Maybe I was too fierce - maybe you were, too - but nonetheless, I'm sorry to see you go. Thank you for following me, and for all your comments. This is the risk we all take when writing about things near to our hearts; people won't always agree. But, dear late follower, I wish you had done your research, as I have. Then we need never have fallen out at all.
Best wishes, and no hard feelings, eh?

Now I wonder who that could be?
ReplyDeleteLet me think.
L'homme qui se cache derrière un nom de blog.
Pound to a penny it is.
Peut etre, Adrian. Ou peut etre pas...(this doesn't do accents, I'm afraid. Or if it does, I haven't found them.)

You cam also write them in HTML code. this is Windows specific but Mac will do something similar. you have to use the number pad not the numbers above the querty bit.
Found a site with a list of all of them
DeleteFUNNY WRITING
Thank you, Adrian. I'll look it up.
DeleteThere are quite a few un-followers in my blog's wake, Frances, but I suspect their reasons are a lot more banal than yours - they were probably simply bored by my endless posts about Yorkshire and/or new dresses...
ReplyDeleteQuality not quantity Meike!
DeleteMeike, it's only happened to me once before. A pair of bloggers, who I suspect, were in fact fakes, dropped me because I didn't follow their blog. Odd, that.
DeleteI had a pair of bloggers like that too Frances. Very Peculiar People.
DeleteIt's sad when one demonstrates one's disagreement ion that way. I disagree occasionally with many of the people I follow (which is not very many actually) but can't think why I would un-follow simply because of that. C'est la vie.
ReplyDeleteI have (and would) never un-follow anyone, unless the blog were truly offensive. And I'm old enough not to mind when it happens to me. But in this case, I suspected it would happen, and it did. As you say. C'est la vie.
DeleteAt one point I actually reached 100 but only a few days later it was back to 99 - and now I see it's down to 98. I have no idea who dropped out. In my experience the official number of followers says very little about who actively follows anyway.
ReplyDeleteDT, I only knew who it was who had dropped out because I thought it might happen. I hoped the blogger concerned might continue our discussion, but there you go. And you're right about who actively follows, On the whole, I have no idea, although I know that some of my family, who are not official followers, spy on me from time to time.
DeleteDawntreader has nailed it. I have a magnificent total of 29 followers, of whom I know for a fact exactly eight actually read my posts. I couldn't care less! I write for my own pleasure, not for self-esteem boosting.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your blog, Frances, and will continue to read it for as long as it, I, or the internet survive.
Thank you kindly, Tim! I agree that blogging is a useful outlet for feelings/ideas etc. It also acts as a useful diary. It's lovely when peoeple take the time to comment, but doesn't matter if they don't.
DeleteMy follower numbers seem to go up and down. I don't actually want to offend anyone and I don't suppose you do either, but we should be able to give our opinions on issues we're concerned with even if we risk doing just that.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that if we were to never give our opinions on anything, blogs would be so boring we'd lose even more followers.
I absolutely agree, Patsy.
DeleteWhy would anyone want to unfollow? You could just stop looking and commenting.
ReplyDeleteMaggie, I think it's his way of communicating his anger. Sad, really, as I would have liked to continue our...er....discussion.
DeleteSad but it says more about the other person than it does about you. This sort of thing is normal on social media eg Face Book, but I wouldn't have expected it here.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. This happens to children a lot on things like Instagram, causing great hurt. I'm happy to say that I'm not hurt at all! Thank you for commenting.
