What is it about window cleaners?

Looking at my blog stats - as you do, when you really ought to be doing something else and there's a man fixing work surfaces in the kitchen - I noticed that my fifth most popular post is the one entitled "window cleaners" (the top one, by a long shot, is still "in love with a horse"; I can understand that).

So - what I want to know is: have I missed something? Is there something about window cleaners that everyone else (except me) knows? Is it a euphemism for something exciting/rude/naughty? Or are readers just looking for a window cleaner? In which case they'll be disappointed, because I'm not one.

If you are party to the window cleaner secret, please let me know. I promise I won't tell anyone.

  1. Well, I am a bit puzzled about - according to the stats - the most popular post on my blog, too. It is "Dear Dashboard", where I once listed all the blogs I was following then, each with a short summary of what made that blog interesting to me.
Window Cleaners... hmm... if you ever find out what their special appeal is, please let me know :-)

  2. My most popular one is "PS to last post".

I don't know anything exciting about window cleaners - I once had one that never stopped giggling and there was a rather good looking one too :-) x

    1. A giggly window cleaner...hmm. Perhaps he suffered from vertigo, and the giggle was a nervous one?

  3. Hi Frances, could be something to do with that film, Confessions of a window cleaner, remember?... Other than that haven't a clue.

  4. Most mysterious, but you had me looking up my stats. My all-time most-viewed post was an ABC Wednesday one about Zermatt, Switzerland, but it didn't receive the most comments, only 26. Two other posts in my top ten received 47 comments.
Who knows what lurks in the minds of blog fans? Dirty windows, most likely, for your fans.

    1. Kay, that's interesting. I too find the more popular the post, the fewer comments there are.

  5. No idea what attracted viewers to the window cleaner post! And I haven't even loked at my stats since the new look blogger - but you've put it into my head now.

    1. Rosemary, you have my admiration for coping with the new blogger. I can't hack it at all!

  6. Well if I had been around at the time I'm sure I would have commented. We all have windows in common and they all need cleaning and most of us have a tale to tell about errant window cleaners. Another time maybe...

    1. Maggie, years ago I sold a story about a window cleaner who sighted a woman ( our heroine) in the bath. I was rather fond of that one.

  7. I suspect it has to do with what people are entering into search engines. My most popular post in terms of page views is a three line one entitled 'The Last Post'. Which it was not!

    1. Hmmm. Interesting. One of my writing colleagues found that Pingpong brought the readers in. A - The First Post was one of my winners, so maybe people find the word post attractive...
