My lovely male genes

Well, here's some good news. Apparently if you are a woman who has borne sons (I have three), some of the male genes cross over and lodge themselves in the brain. We're not talking hormones here. I shan't be trimming my beard and saying farewell to my boobs (which suckled said sons). But I should be able to dismantle the car, not listen, lose my socks. That kind of thing.

Well, I think this is all bo****ks. Not only do I know exactly where my socks are, but I've just totally failed to instal a new and apparently simple phone. (Husband has also failed, but he's not well, so he doesn't count at the moment). Our clever (male) neighbour is out, and lovely helpful James down the lane is busy (though he did say that his mum, who has four sons, doesn't appear to have any male genes either).

Oh, and the fridge has died.

It's been that kind of day.

  1. I am sure the article (or whatever/whereever it was you read that) started with "Scientists in the U.S. have found...", because this bears all the marks of a total bu*****t story. Genes crossing over? Lodging themselves? In the brain? Oh yes, really bloody likely!

Sorry to hear it's been that kind of day for you, Frances. Tomorrow will hopefully be of a different kind!

  2. My son just blames me for everything. I just blame myself for give birth to him :-)

    1. Oh dear. What was it King Lear said about "an ungrateful child"??

  3. What will they come up with next! I used to get my youngest son's old trousers for dog walking when he'd finished with them - but probably the wrong sort of jeans :-) x

    1. My bum is far too big to fit into boys' trousers, but I do inherit my daughter's when she's gone off them!

  4. I think you'd be better off continuing your own scientific research and ignoring stuff like this.

Hope tomorrow is a better day.

  5. It's just nature's way of making sure women don't get too clever.

  6. Sorry about the fridge...hope you get it sorted out soon, and you don't lose any perishables.
FYI, women don't need to absorb any male genes, we already have good genes....that scientific study is total foolishness. Can't they use all that grant money for something more important?

    1. Virginia, I'm sure you're right. But sometimes I wish I had more of the understanding of how things work, which seems to be a genetic component of all my sons!

  8. What a load of rubbish - not your blog, but the scientific research of course. By the way, hope hubby is better soon. I have one here that's not too well, so sympathise.

  9. No sons , I'm afraid . Does that mean I'm never going to play air guitar ? Pity .

  10. The strange thing that I've learned from all this is that you have a large bum and that Meike uses the expletive 'bloody'. Both seemed so totally unlikely. My life will never be the same again.

    1. Before you say it, Frances, I know that I omitted an 's' from 'things'. I started off with just one and then added another. Silly me.
