My Ode to (this) Autumn

Season of clouds and welly-bootfulness,
Close bosom friend of the torrential rain.
Hardly a hint of summer sunfulness,
And bloody winter's on its way again.
I wouldn't mind if I were sporting  tanfulness,
And felt the need for hurricanes and such,
But as it is, my skin is pale with sunlessness,
And in the mirror, I don't like it much.
Soon there'll be mud and snow and freezefulness,
The prospect fills my pallid soul with dread.
But there are always books and  wine and cheesefulness -
I'll spend the next six months, with them. In bed.

(Sorry. Keats. But your autumns were obviously nicer than ours.)

  1. Thanks for the smile,
love and commiserations from sunny Scotland.

    1. No need to be smug, Adrian. Your turn will come...

  2. That is so funny and so appropriate. Despite what Adrian said it probably applies more to those of us in Scotland's north-west than it does down in Devizes. Four days of sun in September does not compensate for rain at some time every day for four months.

    1. I think you're very brave to sacrifice s NZ summer for a British winter, Graham!

    2. Frances it wasn't really my choice. It was one thrust upon me by the medical profession and their desire to keep me alive.

  3. Love it, love it. Made me smile. Clever too.

  4. What about chocolatefulness? I wouldn't be able to survive autumn and winter without it! Cheesefulness and books are essentials, too.

  5. Great fun, Frances!

Keats is not spinning in his grave at all; he is merely chuckling with mirthfulness.

    1. Actually, I love Keats, but I'm not so mad about the Ode.

    1. Lynne, I'm already wearing my winter uniform of jeans, shirt, sweater and trainers. No boots yet, though...

    1. Joanna, cheese is the reason I could never become a vegan. I'm not a vegetarian, either, but wouldn't mind being one if I didn't have to cater for carnivores.
