New Years resolutions; progress so far

Nil. Nothing. Niente.

These are the things I have not managed to do:

1. Be be more organised.
2. Waste less time on the Internet.
3. Write every day.
4. Be nicer about X (who is horrible to me, and most other people as well).
5. Make lists and stick to them. Well,  I have made the lists, but I cheat, by writing down things I've already done and then crossing them off. This pleases me. (I'm easily pleased.)
6. Give up The Times "difficult" su doku. I just can't. It's sooooo satisfying (goodness knows why).
7. Take more stuff to Oxfam (I've taken some, but not nearly enough).

Then lovely daughter said, "but Mum - you can't keep resolutions because that means changing yourself!"

And she has a point, even  though it means I'm lazy, disorganised, incapable of sticking to lists etc. etc.......Sigh.

But she seems to love me as I am, so maybe there's hope after all.

  1. This looks like a reasonable score.

  2. Your daughter certainly has a point there, and she will be in a very good position to say this, as she no doubt knows you very, very well.

As I have not been making any New Year resolutions, there is no progress I could report on. But my biggest project for this year (swapping my bedroom and living room) is making progress in that I have looked at a choice of settees online and will go and look at them properly (and try them!) with RJ on Friday after work.

    1. Meike, you don't seem to me to be the kind of person who needs N Y resolutions. Good luck with the settees.

  3. Somewhere I read that as long as you enjoy what you're doing, you're not wasting time!

  4. I agree about #6. I also agree with Dawn Treader.

  5. You've written today and it's a list and you've stuck it up on the blog and it's organised into number sequence and I'm guessing you weren't doing Suduko at the same time and you've not been mean about X even though they clearly deserve it - which by my reckoing means you've achieved at least half of your resolutions. Therefore you needn't bother with them again until July.

    1. Well, if you look at it like that...yes! Than you, Patsy.

  6. This is the reason why NY resolutions are a waste of time. Just be yourself and keep blogging.

    1. I also meant to cut down on the blogging... forgot that one. Thanks for reminding me, Maggie.

  7. I've been leading Timbobig astray. He used to despise Su doku and now he's hooked. I don't think that resolutions need to be about 'bettering' yourself.

    I'm with you on 5.

    1. I'm with you (and Z) on 5 and 6. And I think she'd go along with #2.

    2. Thanks, Z. There's something very satisfying about a completed su doku. And it has to be good for the brain...?

    3. And thanks, Tim, for the advice.

  8. Exactly why I stopped making resolutions

  9. What exactly is the definition of wasted time? Time spent doing something you don't want to do? Time spent ironing, cooking, enjoying life? To me one of the most wasteful ways to use time is to worry about wasting time. Carpe diem. If you feel like doing su doku (which, lets face it some people seem to) just do it. Simplistic? Yes. But then I like simple.

    1. Graham, I can worry AND do things at the same time, so I never waste time worrying. Which I suppose is something.

  11. It would take more than sticking to a list to change you, but I do see your daughter's point. For me, making a list of things to do or change just keeps the clutter out of my head. When I check things off, I feel as if I've accomplished something.

    1. I Totaly agree about lists getting the clutter out of one's head, EM. It's like untangling a muddle of wool.

  12. I have yet to master 2,3 and 5 and there are time when my entire list is moved to the next day.

    1. L, I do that, too. In fact my list moves seamlessly from week to week.

  13. I make new resolutions every single day. Sometimes I even manage one or two, but only for that day. Don't be so hard on yourself.

  14. I love your daughter's advice. I'm definitely going to apply it to myself whenever I feel annoyed that I haven't stuck to my resolutions! And it's good to know I'm not the only one who can't stick to them. I love the list-crossing one - guilty of that too! xxx
