What did you dream about last night?

While waiting in for A the plumber (see last post for details. There's now a veritable tsunami flowing across the kitchen floor), I thought I'd like to see what anyone who reads this dreamt about last night. Other people's dreams can be deeply  boring, especially in novels, but I really would like to know. However, no cheating, please!

(In case you ask, I dreamt that I was helping the first female Pope get ready for her first Easter address. She dressed and undressed under a huge, modest tent, but we had trouble finding her hairbrush.)

  1. I'm quite interested in dreams, but alas I cannot recall any from last night (or any feeling that I dreamt at all). Yours, however, oddly reminds me of the audio book I'm listening to at the moment: Empress Orchid by Anchee Min (about the last Empress of China) She's also getting dressed and undressed a lot - and getting help with her hair!

  2. I would have thought women were far to sensible to be Pope Frances. Should that be "Pope, Frances"? Come to think of it though I suppose convention generally suggests that dresses and red shoes are usually female garb.

Although I am prone to dreams and nightmares (categorised as dreams, night ponies, night mares and, at their worst, night stallions) I rarely recall them for long after I've woken. This week I'm having a Good Week and I've just had dreams but I can't recall a single one. Fat lot of use I am to your dream library Frances. Not even sure why I commented.

    2. Frances I woke this morning once again without remembering my dream which, for me, is a Good Thing. However I woke thinking about your question and suddenly had the idea of looking at my mail to see what I had written about dream content.

I have also also blogged about dreams a number of times. You could try this one here.

This is a quote from a letter to a friend: "I had a dreadful nightmare (I was an Island governor or something and some rebels or mutinous soldiers tried to take over). It was very very real and kept on and on. I think I kept waking but when I did (the mutiny was quelled and the renegades executed) I was then driving for the ferry to the USA and I kept missing it. The thing is that every time that happened I was convinced that I had woken from a dream and I’m still not sure what was dream and what was a waking thought process."

    3. That last sounds awful, GB. I'll look up your link. I like the kind of dream where you know you're dreaming, and can choose to fly or whatever. I fly a lot in dreams. I do breastroke through the air

    4. I just don't like dreaming Frances. I certainly have no choice or control when I do. Last night I was stuck behind a large caterpillar tractor and trailer going up a mountain road....interminably so it seemed.

  3. If I did dream, I don't remember. I very rarely do remember dreaming.

    1. I think you need to pin dreams down as soon as you wake up.

  4. I dreamt that one of the smaller children climbed through the banisters onto the top of the Welsh dresser after one of the cats. See, nowhere near as interesting as yours, Frances x

    1. Teresa, I'm always dreaming about small grandchildren. It's our time of life...?

  5. Love your dream, Frances! I know I had one as it disturbed me when I woke but it's completely gone from my head now. Maybe should start writing them down.

  6. No,can't remember mine either, although I do dream most nights. It's usually linked to something that I'm worrying or thinking about or a programme I've been watching. Sorry, can't be more helpful.

  7. I had a nightmare that woke me up then after checking e-mails and a cup of cocoa I had a sleep and a really good dream. I dreamt I was in love again. I could go on but it would be embarrassing and too much information.

  8. There were two brief scenes I dreamt, one after the other. The first one was set in my grandma's living room. She was still alive, and I was sitting on the settee with her and an old friend of mine who now lives in Switzerland and whom I see maybe once a year. We were talking, but I can not remember what about.
The second scene was in my bedroom. RJ (who very rarely appears in my dreams) called me over from the kitchen to tell me that there was a spider on the ceiling. He took a dust brush on a long stick that is stored in the corner behind the bedroom door (it is there in real life) to get the spider down. Pukky, my dear old cat who died two years ago, came running in to hunt for the dropped spider. It was nice seeing Pukky again, with that eager, playful look on her face when she was chasing after a ball of crumpled paper.

    2. A bit, yes. Not quite as hysterical about them as I used to be, but still don't want them in my flat. They can live outdoors where I won't disturb them.

  9. Wasn't there supposed to have been a female Pope Joan? I think it may be fictitious, but the idea is interesting.

  10. I'd be happy to start with a female priest. Seems like I dreamt about helping my old dad dress....kinda foggy, to be honest. I dream vividly all the time but don't remember after being up and around for a while, unless I write it down.

    1. Yvonne, I keep meaning to write dreams down to see if there's a pattern. I do dream about horses and deadlines a lot. And feeding hordes of people.
