Remembrance

This music by Mark Blatchly is the very moving piece which St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir used to sing in the Royal Albert Hall on Remembrance Day. My son is the boy on the right in the first row of four, tho it’s hard to recognise him at all, never mind nearly forty years on. I love this piece, and it’s my rather late tribute to the very special day that was last Sunday.

  1. Not a hymn I know I have to admit. I assume that it wasn't a service given the clapping - although well-deserved. They certainly sang with enthusiasm.

    1. It’s not a hymn, Graham. It’s an anthem especially composed for the St.Pauls cathedral choir. My son runs a choir himself now (he’s Not a professional misician) and he conducted this piece on Sunday.

  2. Lovely. I do love to hear English boy choirs, especially the one at Cambridge that the BBC broadcasts worldwide on Christmas Eve. I'm sure you were/are a very proud mom.

    1. RWP the recording isn’t brilliant, but it is very old! Yes - I love that sound, too.

  3. How beautiful, Frances - they all sound and look so sweet and innocent at that age. You must have been very proud of your son!

    1. Rosemary, you wouldn’t think they used to drop water bombs out of the windows onto the heads of passing commuters, would you?

  4. I used to sing in the church choir. I very much doubt it ever sounded like that.
