Pink or blue babies
What I want to know is, why? I see babies in the town every day, and they are invariably dressed in pink or blue. I even saw a pink baby wearing pink clothes travelling in a pink pram*. It's almost as though the parents need reminding whether they have a boy or a girl.
I dressed my own babies in either colour (not so much pink. I'm not a fan of pink). I didn't need to colour code them. I knew who/what they were. (Both sexes looked great in navy; it matches babies' eyes.) Grown men and women don't go around in pink or blue; why do it for babies?
Where do you stand on pink/blue? And does it really matter (no. I'll answer that one myself).
*What if they have a boy next time? New pram?

Why the menopause?
Yet another "scientific study" has come up with the this ridiculous exlanation for the menopause: (in summary) it's there so that there are plenty of grannies to look after the new generation, rather than carry on breeding themselves.
No no NO! It's perfectly obvious to me why women reach a manopuase; if fertility continued into old age, who would look after all those babies? Given that it takes about 18 years to see them to maturity, we need those extra post-menopause years to see them out of the nest. Also, as any grandmother will tell you, we are TOO TIRED to go on producing babies for ever. Some of us want to travel, write books, paint picture, climb Everest. This is OUR TURN. The kids will have theirs. OK?
This argument presupposes that men, whose fertility persists interminably, are incapable of seeing those same babies out of the nest. Well, let's face it; in some cases (not all, but some) it could just be right.
I do wish these scientists would stop wasting years of "research" on these silly projects, and just ask us. It would save so much time.

That baby again
Time for another baby pic. A cheery thing for a January day. I hate January because (a) it's a horrible month and (b) February comes next, and with it, my birthday. I have a friend who never tells anyone how old she is. Even her son doesn't know. I think this must be wonderfully liberating, because she just is. But I know how old I am, and I'm not pleased.
