Finally losing it

Nice sandals, aren't they? Well, I think so. I needed some new flat sandals, and went shopping. Couldn't find any. Tried the internet, and found these on Amazon. They looked comfortable; not expensive. Finger poised over the "buy" button...

...but wait a minute. They looked familiar. Just a bit. Didn't I already have some rather like that? I turned out all my cupboards (finding a horrible selection of mouldering old shoes in the process). No sandals. Then I looked down...

I was wearing them. The exact same pair. Nice. Comfortable. Last year's birthday present from a son. Plenty of wear left in them.

As I said, I must be finally losing it...

  1. You are not alone.
I just went to hang out a load of washing. The cycle had finished but it would have been better if I'd remembered to put the clothes in the machine.

    1. Atvlesstvyou didn't do what a relative of mine did, and put the cat through a whole washing cycle! (I must add that this was a mistake. And no. The cat didn't survive. But it was very clean...)

    2. Oh dear. That was a bit garbled. But you know what I mean...?

  2. I called my baby grandson "Good girl" yesterday - well it makes a change from calling him by his brother's name.
We need a "losing it" club :-) x

    1. Do you secretly hanker after a granddaughter, Teresa?

    2. I've got four grandaughters between the two boys so perhaps that excuses (I hope) my slip :-) x

  3. I do this with blue cardigans. I see one in a shop, think "that's a nice blue cardi, it'll go with loads of things", totally forgetting how many blue cardis I already have.

    1. Ah, but I bet the cardigans aren't all exactly the same!

  4. Oh dear, what's happening to us..? Well i think it because we have such busy minds. It all down to the writing. having to remember what our characters are wearing, doing, and where they are in the plot etc. We just don't have time to remember what's going on in the real world as well.

Sorry, where is the real world anywhere?
So sorry, Amanita what was you saying to Jake... I know it's really is important, but Frances was having trouble with her sandles... Yes, I know, but I do have a life of my own....

Sorry Frances, I must go you know what these characters are like :-)

  5. I wondered why the toilet seat wasn't lifting the other day until I realised I was giving it a gentle push, like I do with the waste bin in the kitchen. Oh dear!

    1. Maggie, I assume you're a woman. I have good news for you. You don't HAVE to lift the toilet seat!

  6. I do sympathise. You're not alone in this, Frances.
I've ordered teh same book three times from Amazon.

And I once sat down with a book under my feet and my slippers in my hand.

  7. Yesterday after work, I went to the gym. Got my key from the nice lady at reception, started to change... and found out I had packed my gym bag without the pants.
Shyness is not on my list of qualities, but even I have limits, and chose to go instead of working out pant-less.

    1. But weren't you wearing pants when you arrived? Or are you thinking of American pants ie trousers? I think we should be told!

    2. I was wearing a pair of trousers, made of non-elastic fabric - nothing you'd want to work out in, believe me! The pants I usually wear for the gym are the same black ones I wear for running, see my last "Fashion Calendar" post. Normally, as soon as they are dry after washing, I put them in my gym bag... but because I knew I was going to need them on Tuesday for running, I didn't put them in the bag this time.

    3. I'm still puzzled. Are you sure you don't mean trousers? Over here, pants are knickers!

  8. I feel so so much better after reading that lot. It is so good to know that one is not alone.

    1. GB, I'm so glad. You need never feel alone when you come over here. There's room for all sorts!

  9. I think that this would your son happy since obviously you like the sandals that he gave you! See, you can always find a bright side. Made me laugh too, second good thing.

  10. That's a good one, Frances, and I'm reassured to know that others are starting to do strange things too. My daughter just told me last week (in that tone) that she worries about sometimes.

  11. Perhaps it's a writerly thing, Rosemary...? We all have other more important things to think of...

  12. I love this. We think "I like those, I'll order them" and the reason we like them is familiarity. LOL
I'm sure it's a writerly thing. Absenminded professor stuff.

  13. I do that with groceries, particularly tinned peas...

  14. Anna, what exactly do you do with tinned peas? Buy too many? Too few? Wear them on your feet?
