A Titch crisis and a holiday

So there we were last night, ready - ish - to go on holiday, and Titch went suddenly and horribly lame. Vet was called. Infected tendon. Needed immediate surgery. Off to hospital.

Of course, Titch didn't want to get on the lorry. He wanted to be at home. Didn't we know he wasn't well? Three of us persuaded him on board, and off we set, Titch muttering darkly and emitting the occasional pathetic whinny. When we arrived, he sniffed his new surroundings, decided he definitely didn't like what he was sniffing (andtiseptic, fear and vets), and said he'd seen it all now, thank you very much, and would like to go home now.

We left him; me crying, and Titch wide-eyed and trembling. They phoned later to say the op had been successful, and at 11.30 pm to say the patient was now standing up. Phew.

After the week we've had, this was (almost) the last straw. Because although Titch is in good hands, and probably doesn't need me, I need him; to see for myself that he's ok. But I can't. All I can do is send him grapes and a copy of Horse and Hound, and keep everything crossed that he gets well soon.

We fly off tomorrow morning. I think when it comes to it, I'll be quite relieved.

I think...

  1. Oh dear, so sorry and I do sympathise Frances. I understand because hubby is in hospital at the moment having just had a triple heart by-pass. He's recovering well, but I feel a bit 'out of it' at the moment. Do try and have a good holiday. At least it didn't happen while you were away.

  3. Poor Titch! But how good he has you as his owner to make sure he is well and gets the best treatment.
(He'd probably dispute my use of the term "owner", so don't tell him I said that.)

Have a good holiday - I'll be off on the 4th of June myself.

  5. Oh, what an assault to Titch's dignity. He has to admit to fear and trembling, and I'm sure "being in good hands" other than your hands is the last thing he'd want.
Bon voyage, however, now that you know the surgery was successful. Titch will tell you all about the indignities when you get back.

  6. Poor Titch and poor you, too, Frances. It 's such a worry, even though he's in good hands.

It sounds as if you can go ahead and thoroughly enjoy a well-earned holiday. Titch will have all kinds of things to tell you when you come home.

Have a restful and happy break. xx

  7. Terrible timing but, at least, you won't have the additional worry of trying to decide what to do with any left over holiday funds. (I'm glad the prognosis is good).

And hope you have a good holiday, Frances - you certainly need it :-) x

  10. Enjoy your holiday, Frances. It is never ideal to go away when something is hanging fire.
But it usually turns out fine and Titch is in good hands.

  15. Oh, poor Titch - I hope he is a bit better now and very glad the op went well. What a worry just before your holiday. Something you really don't need.

  16. Thanks for all the lovely comments. As I'm only just back from holiday, please excuse lack of individual acknowledgements. Instead, I'll let Titch speak for himself...
