All the world loves a lover?

No, it doesn't. All the world may be pleased that the lovers have found each other, and that they're happy, but I doubt very much whether we love them.

Think about it. That couple eating each other's faces off on the street corner. Do we love them? Of course we don't. The other day, we were out having a pizza, and the couple at the next table were obviously deeply in lurve. So much so, that when he went to the loo, their farewells verged on the ridiculous, and upon his return he was greeted like an oil rig worker who'd been toiling away in the stormy North Sea for six months. So bad was the situation that I was tempted to go over to them and say: "OK, guys. So you love each other. That's great. Now please take yourselves off home to bed, and get it out of your system, because you're putting me off my Fiorentina (with extra spinach).

(I'm afraid I'm still being a grumpy cow.)

  1. There is a limit to what we are willing to see in public - it's a bit like exposed flesh, isn't it? It's all very well to wear short dresses and skimpy tops, but I don't like to look at wobbly upper arms and bulging midriffs in too-tight clothes, or werewolf-like hairy legs and what is so fittingly called men's cleavage.
And while a kiss and holding hands or a hug in public is perfectly alright with me, I don't need to watch others practically doing it (doesn't that expression sound very pre-pubescent?) on the street. Or at the pizzeria.
I hope you still enjoyed your Fiorentina. I would have opted for extra spinach, too!

    1. I don't recall being like that before I reached puberty Meike. Mind you I wasn't like that afterwards either.

  2. Extra spinach is good and too much public kissing is yukky. Eeewwww.
I have no idea why I sound like my daughters. I blame the summer holidays.

    1. I think I probably sound like my daughter, too. I only wish I looked like her....

  3. Like the photo. Don't like the all the things that Meike doesn't like. Ergo I agree with you. Apart from the Fiorintina. Not one of my favourite pizzas.

  4. I do so agree, Frances. What happened to privacy? Why does everyone feel the need to expose everything, both physical and emotional, to the world at large? It makes me cringe.

    1. One of the things that annoy me is that it seems to be ok among the young. Now, if I went out into the street and did that with my old man, I'm sure there'd be a riot!

  5. You should see what goes on at the college where I supervise, Frances. Sometimes the area under the stairwell is like a scene from Solomon and Sheba.

    1. Ah, but I don't eat pizza under your stairs, Keith. Better than on the stairs, I suppose...?

  6. Overkill comes to mind. Wonder how long they'll feel like that - and now I sound cynical which I'm not (usually!). But I do like spinach.
