Magpie 212

MODERN ART

"Now, this is Tracy Emin's bed,"
The gallery curator said.
"Next door, you'll find a cow and calf,
Sawn (by Damien Hurst) in half.
These sell for bucket-loads of cash,
But me? I think they're utter trash."

(With thanks to Tess at Magpie Tales for the picture)

  1. Utter rubbish... You can't call it art... Mad people with too much money buy such rubbish.

  2. Short, sweet and succinct - I like your take on this Magpie Tale.

  3. Love this. Reminds me of the contained insanity I saw when I first looked at the photo.

    1. Julie, it looked like any teenager's bedroom to me.

  4. A beautiful limerick but what is wrong with the bed?
It looks perfectly serviceable to me.
Mine is much the same but without the ladies clothing and things. I'll take a photo if anyone is interested in fine art.

    1. PS. I could extend the area of interest to include my kitchen and shower. My desk is little better.

  5. Indeed, so much art these days is just trash! Nice take.

  6. I once spent a lot of time in a Tracey Emin exhibition at The National (or was it The Tate?) in the hope of giving her a fair hearing in my mind. I gave her a very fair hearing. Verdict: she's having us on...big time.

    1. True, and Emin knows it. Laughing behind her hand at the tossers who give her awards for this sort of thing.

    2. GB, the sad thing is that she CAN draw. Just prefers to win prizes and fame with rubbish.

  7. Dear Tracey; where would we be without her!

    1. CM, trust me. We'd be just fine without her. But she needs US.

  8. If you or I put this in a public place we'd be arrested and charged with fly tipping.
Emin's success with this display proves that "Art is what you can get away with."

  9. The only talent Tracy etc seem to have is getting away with it.

    1. As so many people agree, it seems odd that this kind of 'art' persists, Cait.
