A break from fiction

I'm taking a break from novel-writing* (although I shall still write the odd short story) and am currently writing a non-fiction book. As it's largely about my own experience, I don't have to think up a plot or an ending (or even a middle) because it's all there in my head. And today, I got my agent's approval (I'd sent her the opening), so I can go ahead with it. Quite exciting!

*I shall return to it when the idea in my head has gelled. It's taking its time at the moment.

  1. I hope your experience with the qwertygram is not what pushed you over the edge....

  2. I can see the attraction of writing about something you know so well, but don't think I could do it myself - I'd be too tempted to embellish the truth beyond all recognition.

  4. It does indeed sound exciting! Thumbs up from someone who'd love to write (both fiction and non-fiction) but simply lacks the stamina to stick to one subject for a long time.

  5. Sometimes a change is just what's needed. Not only will you be fresh for your non-fiction, you'll return to fiction with renewed optimism and vigour!

  6. This sounds very exciting and congratulations for getting the go-ahead. I'm sure you'll really enjoy the change from fiction and it must feel great to have all the information you need in your head and ready to go.

    Good luck!

  7. Not quite, RWP, but jolly nearly!

Patsy, you may be right. It's the chronology that I tend to get wrong.

    Thanks, Diane and Colette.

Librarian, I have the same problem, but this is something that's been screaming to be written about, so we'll see!

Tim, you're right. I put so much pressure on myself to find plots that the whole thing becomes counter-productive. Now I can plot peacefully. I hope...

    Joanna, thank you.

  9. How intriguing. Is it about horses, I wonder? Good luck.

  11. Thanks, Rosemary.

No horses, Gail. At least, not yet...

Could be, Keith, but not a very Christmas-y subject!
