Cards from the Bump

I'm over-blogging at the moment, I know that, but I just couldn't resist this. Apparently, there are now greetings cards available for expectant mothers "from the Bump". This is a (genuine) sample verse:

"Although we haven't met yet
I just want to say
You're loved so very much
In a very special way."

Without wishing to be unkind, if the writing goes belly up, I think there just might be a vacancy or two for verse-writers. In fact, if anyone can come up with a really brilliant one (ie greetings from the Bump), I'll send them a prize. And that's a promise.

But my favourite card ever was one I saw years ago which said, simply, "Happy Easter from the Dog". I've regretted every since that I didn't buy it.

  1. Card manufacturers are now trying to make a profit from unborn children? They must have run out of 'special' days to promote.

  2. Hi, Patsy and Alis. The journalist who wrote the article said it was due to our preoccupation with motherhood. I think it's more to do with the card manufacturers' preoccupation with making money!

  3. I don't believe it! (in the words of a famous Scottish actor). I detest the way card companies exploit all kinds of situations just to make money. But maybe there are actually people who buy them?

  4. I checked the date on this to see if you were having a laugh.
I'd love to think up a rhyme but I fear the muse has deserted me.

  5. I love it! How about this:

Though I'm sitting in your tummy
I know all about you, mummy.
You give me love, I feel your smiles,
And in return I'll give you piles.

  6. Rosemary - there have to be people who buy them. The shops are stuffed with Mother's Day cards. I looked for a Bump one, and there wasn't one, but there was a whole section devoted to "You've been/you are like a mother to me"! Oh - and Nana and Grandma have jumped on the bandwagon, too, although it's not their day at all (I've told mym grandchildren that if they ever, ever call me Nana I'll shoot them).

Excellent, Aliya! You are the winner (and the only entrant) so far. Come on Keith! Have a go! What have you got to lose?

  7. Now you're up the duff
    Morning sickness ain't enough
so to make sure you vomit
    I've sent this card, innit?

  8. Brilliant, Patsy! (What a very vulgar infant.)

Are there no more poets out there?
